Aid to Romania

Shufflebottom steel was on a lorry rolling down European roads to Romania in April 2008, to support the Romanian Aid Foundation’s work in the poverty-stricken town of Dorohoi, where 40,000 people live. The steel is for the structure of a new house to replace a tumbledown shack in the town, where three adults in every four are unemployed. The roof for the new home, donated by Kingspan, was also on the lorry.

Romania joined the European Union in January 2007, but remains a very poor country where homes are dilapidated and paid work is scarce. The Romanian Aid Foundation sends out lorries full of aid, totalling nearly 110 tonnes in 2007. The transport itself is expensive, costing over £2,200 per trip in 2007, rising higher in 2008 due to the escalating price of oil.

Staff donate to hospice

The Ty Bryngwyn hospice in Llanelli, which cares for people who are terminally ill, has received a donation of £1,000 from Shufflebottom staff, who raised the money by paying £5 a head to attend their annual Christmas party.
